Gestures
Gestures are movements
resulting from some parts of the body with the leg, hands, fingers and so on,
they can be intentional or unintended. It may include using more than one part
of the body at the same time or using only one part of the body and the movement
is public actions. Gestures are
one of the important types of body language in communication. Only one part of
the body or more than one part of the body can express the emotion, feelings,
point of view and opinion of the speaker. It can also build a strong
communication relationship and understanding between people. The listener may receive the message from the
speaker in a positive manner without conscious interpretation from him thanks
to the gestures in the body.
The second type is the
manipulator gestures: it refers to the movement of one part of the body with
another part, and usually the hand is the manipulator, meaning that one part of
the body interacts with another part of the body, such as the movement of the
hands on the face, noses, or ears, or playing with hair, such as a pinch, Massage
and so on and also props can be used such as playing with the pen or shaking it
or like hitting the leg on the ground. This type is used when the person feels
uncomfortable, whether psychologically or physically, or we can use them when
the person is relaxed, depends on what the person feels. This type is
consciously controlled so we can control it.
finally, emblem: they
are subtle gestures that have a meaning within a particular society, culture or
race. This type is used consciously, where the words spoken can be replaced by
this type of gesture and these gestures are limited. This type of gesture can
be transmitted through the face, hands, The head and shoulders, such as raising
the thumb, this is evidence of the word (OK) or (I agree), as well as using the
hands and waving them, this is evidence of the words (Welcome, come here, or bye).
Likewise, the head if the head moves right and left means the word (No) and if
it moved up and down, it indicated the word (Yes), and if the shoulders moved
upward and the eyebrows were knotted, it indicated the word (I don’t know).
