touch
Touch is called haptic communication and is derived from the Greek word haptikos in meaning that it is vital to survival. Touch is the first sense to develop in the fetus, and there are scientific sources that say that many infants die if they do not feel touch or if they do not have the sense of touch. Touch can enhance physical and psychological well-being. Warm touches can lead to positive results, while violent touch leads to an unpleasant ending and a negative result. Through touch, different sensations can be felt such as pain, cold, heat, and pleasure. There are many types of touch such as platonic. (Hugs and handshakes), hitting, unintentional, kicking, pinching, pulling and choking.
Touch is one of the basics of body language where we must
communicate through touch, touch people, touch things and in this way, we can
learn a lot about the person in front of us. Touch can give us confidence
towards others or not and also through it you can know how strong a person is. Touch
for children is very important, as they need to be touched through cuddling or
caressing in order to grow up feeling safe and cared for, even the elderly
whose psychological state improves through physical contact such as touching
and cuddling with dogs. There is a
difference between touch for physical contact and sexual care, as some people
consider hugging or touching to break into personal distance, so people should
not do this more than necessary so that it is not welcome.
There is more than
one way to show safety to others, such as using arms and being relaxed even
without a hug, this shows warmth, and the palms of your hands are visible so
that you convey to others that you are peaceful and do not want any harm, and
this is a way to make the person in front of you calm and not do an unwanted
action later. In the cultures of some Mediterranean countries and
South America, touch, especially the hands, is considered one of the most
important languages of communication between people because it gives comfort
and trust and generates love and reassurance between people. Our arm can convey
a lot of information about the feelings and intentions of others.
There are some types of touch that help us know what the
other person is thinking. For example, if someone moves his finger over his
nose, he is thinking, if he is rubbing his hair, he is flirting, if he is
rubbing his nose, he is lying, if a person rubs his nose in the opposite
direction, he is uncomfortable, rubbing the neck is in a state of discomfort,
touching the arms or hands is comfortable. To connect with
someone, shake hands, touching someone for 40 seconds leads to a human
relationship. There is a study on the handshake conducted by )the Income Center for Trade Shows(, which shows that if
you shake hands with someone, they will remember you more strongly than anyone
else.
